Toyota keys by year

Toyota has used four transponder generations in Australia, plus smart keys on the higher grades. Most Toyotas on Melbourne roads are among the cheapest keys we do, and the price does not climb with the year the way it does on most makes.

Up to about 2005. Fixed-code 4C chips. Early Corolla, Camry, Echo, Avalon, Hilux and the 100 series LandCruiser. A spare is easy, a straight clone of the chip plus the remote. All keys lost is the hard one on these. The immobiliser module or the engine ECU has to come out of the car so we can read its memory and write a new key to it. It is still done at the car, but it is a longer job and it is priced accordingly.

About 2005 to 2012. 4D chips. Corolla 2007 to 2012, Camry 2006 to 2011, Hilux 2005 to 2015, RAV4 to 2012, Kluger 2007 to 2014, Prado 120 and early 150, Hiace. A spare is a clone of the chip plus the remote. All keys lost is a straight reset through the diagnostic port and a new master key learned to the car. No waiting, no parts out of the car. These are the easiest Toyotas to do, spare or lost.

About 2010 to 2015. G chips. Corolla 2010 to 2014, Camry 2012 to 2014, some Hilux and RAV4. Same job as the 4D cars. A spare is a clone, and all keys lost is a reset through the diagnostic port and a new master key.

2013 onwards. H chips. Corolla from 2014, Camry from 2015, Hilux from 2015, RAV4 from 2013, Kluger from 2014, and most keyed-ignition Toyotas since. This is the stronger system people hear about. A spare is still a clone and still $169. All keys lost needs specialist equipment to put the car into learn mode without a key. We carry it, and it is done on the spot.

Smart keys. Push-button start arrived on the Camry and Aurion in 2006, the Kluger and LandCruiser 200 in 2007, the Prado 150 in 2009, and then the Corolla, RAV4, C-HR, Yaris Cross and Hilux SR5. A spare smart key is $250 to $300 on nearly all of them. All keys lost on a smart-key Toyota depends on the generation. The older ones, to about 2013, are done at the car. The newest system, on the LandCruiser 300, Corolla Cross and Prado 250, needs online access and is quoted per car.

2023 onwards. Toyota has stopped fitting keyed ignitions, so anything newer is a smart key on the latest security system. Quoted per car.

Why some Toyota keys aren’t priced on this page

The ones marked “call for price” are the LandCruiser 300, Prado 250, Corolla Cross, and the key-only Prado 90 and early RAV4. The first three run Toyota’s newest security, which needs online access to program and uses genuine keys. The Prado 90 and early RAV4 are the opposite problem, an old key-only system where the right blank is not always available. On all of these we would rather give you the right price on the phone than put a figure here that turns out to be wrong.

These are also the jobs where experience counts. All keys lost on an early fixed-code Toyota means reading the immobiliser or ECU memory, and on an H-chip or smart-key Toyota it needs the right equipment to put the car into learn mode. Lost all your Toyota keys?

Either way the key is programmed to your car and works the same as the original for locking, unlocking, the boot and starting.
